Willowdale Estate Styled Shoot

Willowdale Estate Styled Shoot

A couple of months ago, I had the pleasure of collaborating on a styled shoot at the Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA.  Ghislaine Ruiz of Esme Isolde contacted me about creating a cake inspired by a hand painted bag she found at Anthropologie.  The colors were a mix of pale yellow, robins egg blue, and peach with visible brush strokes.  I loved the idea and came up with a modern interpretation true to my aesthetic.  I created a two-tier cake that was iced smooth with buttercream, then spackled it with differently tinted buttercreams using a palette knife.  I finished it with some fine gold splatter to mimic the flatware, and topped it with dipping olive branches.  I love how it looks both sleek and rustic, and how the branches follow the taper of the buttercream pattern.

Simple baking shoots are always fun, but there's something so inspiring about seeing the same concept interpreted in different mediums.  From the incredible oil backdrops that Jess Blazejewski painted, to the wild bouquets that Ghislaine whipped up, the organic hand lettering that Becca Joas drew, and even the flowing blue skirt from Katherine Bingon, everything went together beautifully.  And the venue itself was breathtaking.  The estate is a Provinçal stone mansion complete with sage green shutters, gorgeous walnut wainscoting throughout, a sunroom with wall-to-wall windows, a garden patio, and a permanently tented dance floor.  It's what my husband an I affectionately like to dream of as our "rich people house."  I keep trying to think up excuses to throw a party there...

Anyway, I had a great time working with this group of supremely talented ladies, and it felt so refreshing to get back into the swing of things considering I hadn't done a wedding shoot in over a year.  The babe even came along and had a blast.  Best of all, the shoot was published in Style Me Pretty last week!  So thank you to all of you who collaborated on this beautiful project, and thank you to Ghislaine for asking me to participate.  And special thanks go to Jess for entertaining Seb. :)

P.S.  More recipe posts are coming soon.  I've just been taking a short break over the past few weeks.  Cheers!
